The Flip Video Camera
Hello there, it’s Kristen Weaver, your Roving Reporter back on duty!
School is back in session, and I was fired up for this morning’s Social Media seminar “Flip over the Flip and YouTube”, presented by Meredith and sponsored by WOAMTEC.
We started off the morning just getting everyone logged in and fed (because what’s a good day at school without a hearty breakfast?). I grabbed a blueberry bagel, banana and Orange Joice. Breakfast of champions, no?
Meredith begins our session talking about all the ways that using YouTube will help with your organic search optimization. So fascinating to me. I’ve used YouTube before, but only for videos of my cat (who wobbles). I was very excited to get it started for my photography business and open a new “channel” – but I had no idea how much it can help your ranking! Basically, Google owns YouTube, which means that when you tag your videos, Google will start to search and rank them as part of your business. We also got to hear a great testimonial of how this worked for a local company! I’m sooo on this!
YouTube is incredibly powerful to drive traffic to your website, and Meredith showed us how different industries are using YouTube to reach their customers, readers, followers – everyone. You can even have your “channel” custom designed to match your brand. Fancy!
Moving on to the Flip Video camera. Meredith should be the next Flip spokeswoman! These tiny little video cameras come in a range of sizes and varieties. They’re priced anywhere from $49-$229 and are super handy! They have a little flip-out USB cable to plug right in to your computer and they have this cool one-touch upload to YouTube or email, and editing software that comes pre-installed on the camera! Check out this quick 15 second video Meredith filmed right in class, uploaded to her YouTube Channel and embedded in the blog! WOW!
I was sitting next to Marc, who has this hot little orange and white number, and another woman in the class bought a pink one (which matched her shirt, but that may have been purely coincidental). Very fashionable!
After getting past the fashionable and intelligent Flip, we dove right in to YouTube! First, Meredith helped to get everyone set up by logging in, adjusting their channel and account settings, and explaining some of the nuances that are included while trying to set up your page. This class was great for a basic user, who hasn’t gotten much time to dig through the site on their own. Meredith showed everyone at a slow pace, and even took the time to help everyone on an individual level!
To finish up, Meredith discussed some best practices with the class, and helped us brainstorm some video content ideas that helped everyone get a head start! When we all left, we were feeling motivated and excited about taking our business to the next level with YouTube!

The class sounds great. I wish I could have been there. We just bought a Flip Video for Bowen Family Homes for an upcoming promotion. I love it! It makes me wonder what took me so long to get one? Our videos will be on YouTube very soon!
