At the rate social media sites are popping up, it’s hard to keep track of the new stuff when you’re still trying to figure out making a Facebook Fan page! So I did a little research, and came up with the top new and interesting social media places that are going to start making a big impact on the way we all work!
You don’t need to run out and sign up for every one of these, but see what you think will work the best for you, and start there. You can use this list as you become more familiar with some of these applications and continue to add them to your arsenal of business tools!
12seconds - You like video? You like Twitter? What an ingenious way to connect the speed of Twitter, with the personalization of web video blogs. 12 Seconds is a micro-video-blogging site that limits your video to… you guessed it, 12 seconds. You can connect your 12 Seconds account to your twitter and facebook pages, so they automatically update whenever you post a video. You can even upload from your mobile phone! On a fun note – one of the cool things on 12seconds is the daily challenge

Ping - I mentioned ping.fm in an earlier post, but I wanted to point out again how fabulous this website really is. I love it’s capability to update all of my social media sites in one swoop. Not only does it cut out a ton of time trying to keep everything updated, but it’s very easy to set up, and use. You can text, email or post statuses, links, pictures – and soon video using Ping. I should mention that it doesn’t currently have access to 12seconds… but they’re working on that with the addition of video updates through ping in a new release very soon. http://ping.fm
Loopt – I love Loopt. It’s fun! No, really! I’ve seen this work for several different types of “stores”, but if you’re a person with interesting travels, this is the application for you! This application really creates a personal relationship with your followers. They can see where you’re going and where you’ve been. The ability to quickly add an image to your status updates and have it attach to a GPS location is truly inventive. Beyond that, if you’re in the business of networking, connect your loopt number with others and find out when they’re nearby to grab lunch, or a quick latte. http://www.loopt.com
MobyPicture or Twitpic – These sites work very similarly to Loopt, just without the GPS invasion! I think it’s really fun when you can post pictures as status updates wherever you go. Twitpic is very easy to update from your phone. Each user is given a unique email address. Whenever you send an email with a photo from your phone to that email address, (your status update would be in the subject line), it updates your twitter – which, in turn, will update your facebook, etc. The benefit to using Loopt is that you can update and take pictures using an application, so you don’t have to send the information anywhere. http://www.mobypicture.com ; http://www.twitpic.com.
These are some great places to check out for connecting in your industry. The best way to get involved is to get some information from the ones that sound the most fun to you. If it’s not fun, you won’t like to do it. So start there, and then narrow it down to a couple that you can keep your hands on. As you become more comfortable, you’ll be ready for the next new and cool site!
