Wondering where to get the social media icons to proudly proclaim you are now on Twitter, Facebook or Wordpress? Look no further! I found a great source at http://www.iconspedia.com/. This site offers more free icons than you can possibly download! I found the categories in the left side navigation difficult to use and not particularly intuitive, but the search feature works very well. From Facebook, Google to Twitter, just type the name of the icon you are looking for in the search field and it comes right up. For the purpose of posting icons on a Website or in an email signature, I recommend downloading the PNG file type and either the 32 X 32 or 64 X 64 size. The icon in this post is the 128 X 128 size so you can get a feel for that size. Click on the size you wish and then click save. The download will start and either automatically save to My Documents/My Pictures or to a file you designate manually. Make a note where you saved the image so you can find it later when you upload it to your site. I hate it when I forget where a file is!
Now for the slightly more challenging part…how to add to your email signature, blog sidebar or Website. If you are an Outlook user, go to Tools/Options/Mail Format/Signatures. If you already have a signature, click on the name of the sigature. If you are using Outlook 2003, click Edit and then yes to open Word for advancing editing. If you are using Outlook 2007, click on the name of the signature and then you can edit in a box directly below. Put your cursor where you want the icon to go. Click on Insert Picture (the button with the mountain on it), browse for the file on your computer and click on Insert.
If you maintain your own blog or Website through a CMS (Content Management System) follow the same process. Log-in to your CMS and go to the content editor. Put your cursor in the WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get) and click on the Insert Picture button. Browse for the file and click on Insert.
If you don’t maintain your own website or blog, simply email your Webmaster the icons and tell him or her where you want them! Shouldn’t take your Webmaster more than a half-hour so don’t let them overcharge you.
Best of luck and happy icon posting!
